A system of reproducing two channel
audio in various rooms in the house.
The Different Types of Multiroom Audio
AB Speakers
The earliest multiroom audio system used A and B speakers
running off one amplifier to add a second area of music to the
system.
Volume Controls
The early 80's saw the AB speaker system replaced with the
impedance matched volume control, which permitted many rooms to tap
sound off one amplifier, however everyone had to listen to the same
source.

Multiple Receivers
The late 90's saw the advent of the keypad / receiver
system where each room had it's own receiver hidden either
centrally or nearby, and controlled via wall mounted keypad.
Listeners could have their own sources playing in their room,
but a lot of hardware was required to achieve this.
Multiroom Audio Amplifier
The system most commonly in use today is the Multiroom
Audio Amplifier.
One box that contains amplifiers for each zone, and supporting
the use of one or more keypads per area.
This permits the user to listen to any source in any zone at any
volume level independently of any other area.
These systems usually have 4, 6 or 8 zones per box and can
usually be ganged up to 64 zones.
Choose a unit with enough inputs to suit your requirements
usually 6 or 8 are common, with the option for local input in each
room - usually a CD player or IPOD or input from that rooms
television.
